Bloody Mess: NBA Star Greg Oden Arrested For Punching Girlfriend In Face
Another tragic tale of a professional athlete beating on a woman…
Miami Heat player Greg Oden didn’t make a big splash on the court this past NBA season, but as the number one draft pick in 2007, he was thought to be one of the most valuable players who would go hard in the paint during his career. Unfortunately, an injury has kept him from climbing the ranks. Now, instead of making headlines for his balling skills, the 26-year-old was arrested early this morning for reportedly punching his ex-girlfriend in the face.
According to TMZ and USA Today, Greg and his ex-girlfriend split just two months ago. He was at his mom’s house in Lawrence, Indiana with his ex and her friend when an argument ensued. Police were called and they found Greg’s ex laying on a bed while holding her face. Initially the ex-girlfriend was “uncooperative,” but her friend told her she needed to let the police know what was really going on.
“There isn’t that much love in the world. You need to tell that he punched you.
According to the incident report, there was blood on the sofa and living room floor. Greg has also admitted to hitting his ex, but says things just got out of control.
“Things got out of control and I started to go after the victim. My relative and witness tried to hold me back, but as I swung my arms to move them out of the way, then punched the victim in the face. I was wrong and I know what has to happen.”
Lawrence Police Chief Gary Woodruff spoke on the incident, saying that official charges can only come from the D.A.’s office but the ex-girlfriend is still “very upset.”
“No weapons involved at all, this would be considered a misdemeanor battery incident at this point, again all the information we presented to the Marion County Prosecutor’s office for a final charging decision.”
“Our understanding with the officers at the scene is that she is doing okay, obviously very upset.”
Greg was arrested and booked for misdemeanor battery.
You have to wonder if her girlfriend wasn’t there, if his ex would have admitted to police that she was punched or would she have tried to protect him for the sake of his career
