Boy Scouts of America To Allow Gay Members.
On Thursday, Boy Scouts of America decisions of votes to allow gay youth to participate in scouting came with 61 percent in favor, the vote overturns the 22-year-old ban.
The 1911 Boy Scouts of America oath: “On my honor I will do my best….to keep myself physically strong, mentally alert and morally straight.”
Since 1991 the Scouts have barred openly gay individuals from participating in Scouting because it was decided that being gay was incompatible with being “morally straight”
This move is what LGBT activists are calling the “first step” of Plenty Hurdles Ahead. Going forward, our Scouting family will continue to focus on reaching and serving youth in order to help them grow into good, strong citizens.”
The policy still remains for adults. Which means that, if you’re gay and over 18 years of age, you’re not permitted to scout Effective Jan. 1, 2014 (USA Today)
