Herstory In The Making: Congratulations Cardi B – Bodak Yellow #1 Song On Billboard Hot 100
Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow (money Moves)” is officially the biggest song in The U.S., Billboard reports. After climbing the charts over the last few weeks, Cardi’s breakthrough hit has ended Taylor Swift’s reign at No. 1 on the Hot 100 with “Look What You Made Me Do.” This makes Cardi only the second female rapper to top the chart without a featured artist, following Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998. She’s the first female soloist to go No. 1 with a debut single sans accompaniment since Meaghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” in 2014.
Meanwhile, Swift has fallen to No. 3 while Post Malone’s “Rockstar” with 21 Savage makes its debut at No. 2 following a huge streaming week.
Last week, Cardi thanked her fans for helping her climb to No. 2 on the charts. “Thank you so much for making ‘Bodak Yellow’ No. 2 on the [Billboard chart],” she said. “I can’t believe this shit and, just to know that I might make it to No. 1, it’s just like, I don’t know, like, it’s a crazy feeling. A bitch like me … I never expected that shit like this would be fucking happening to me [and] it’s all thanks to y’all.”
Cardi recently received some advice from J. Cole after she told the Breakfast Club she wanted the LP to live up to “Bodak Yellow.” “I seen your breakfast club interview, loved it,” he said. “Don’t put all that pressure on your album. You already won. Just drop & repeat.”Cardi was more than satisfied with the advice, writing, “Is this real :’) Son my heart is smiling Well who am I not to take J cole advice.”
